Elfy - istoty fantastyczne w mitologii nordyckiej

Abstract

Celem artykuły „Elfy – Istoty fantastyczne w mitologii nordyckiej” jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, kim były istoty nazywane w języku staronordyckim Álfar? Odpowiedź na to pytanie jest o tyle trudna, że choć samo pojęcie Elf (Álfar) pojawia się dość często w mitologii nordyckiej, to nigdzie nie ma opisu tych istot. W części pierwszej i drugiej artykułu przedstawiono nazewnictwo i zarys kosmologii nordyckiej. Cześć trzecia artykułu przedstawia rolę elfów w mitologii nordyckiej z uwzględnieniem wieloznaczności pojęcia „Álfar”. Część czwarta artykułu jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie czy nordyckie określenie „Álfar” jest tym samym, co anglosaskie „Aelf” oraz jakie są wspólne cechy istot określanych ta nazwą.

The purpose of the article “Elf’s – fantastic creatures in the Nordic mythology” is an attempt to answer a question: who were creatures called Alfar in the old-Nordic language? Despite the term Elf (Alfar) appears quite often in the Nordic mythology the answer is so difficult, as there is no any description of those creatures. The first and the second part of the article presents the terminology and overview of Nordic cosmology . The third part describes role of Elfs in the Nordic mythology taking into consideration ambiguity of “Alfar’s” idea. The fourth part of the article is a an attempt to answer a question if a Nordic term “Alfar” is equal to Anglo-Saxon “Aelf” and what is the common characteristic of creatures described by this term.
